Great Website for all Bird Lovers

These blue bird pictures were taken in 11/16/06. Go back in the archives to see more blue bird pictures taken that day.

This website has lots of wonderful information about birds, including bird graphics and instructions for making birdhouses. I have used their patterns to make a lot of birdhouses and they are very nice to follow and very practical. Click on the link and have fun exploring!

White Tail... the Squirrel

We have had a variety of different squirrels through the years, but one of our favorites has been a squirrel we nicknamed "White Tail." He lived in this area for some time and visited our feeders frequently. He also produced quite a few offspring who also sported white tails and noses! As you can see, "White Tail" is somewhat of a hero. This quiet, unassuming little squirrel is patriotic and willing to defend his country in Iraq. But maybe he is not all that he appears to be...

Our daughter, Peggy, is good with photoshop... but "White Tail" really is a white-tailed squirrel... no Photoshop there! He is a natural White Tail!! Actually the neighbors tell us that there have been white tailed squirrels in this area for many years.

Little Guy

Little Guy is another deer that we handfed from the time he was a tiny fawn. He was released on our property and was free to come and go. Even though we tried hard not to make him a pet, he was very tame and loved to be with people. Having a "Pet" deer is not recommended as they can become dangerous when they are older. Little Guy eventually joined a herd of wild deer but continued to visit us from time to time.

That's not a Hummingbird!

This little fawn was placed in our care by the South Dakota Game Fish and Wildlife to care for until he was old enough to be released in a wild life refuge. He quickly developed a taste for hummingbird nectar!

Rose Breasted Grosbeak

The Rose Breasted Grosbeak is a very colorful bird. He looks like he is all dressed up in a black coat and vest, with a bright red shirt!

Indigo Bunting

Many people mistake the Indigo Bunting for a blue bird, but it is much more colorful than a bluebird. The Indigo Bunting likes to eat the thistle that we put out for the goldfinches.

Cardinals

Cardinals are one of our favorite birds who visit our feeders. The male cardinals seem to be especially pretty when you see them against the white snow!

Hummingbirds

We always have a lot of hummingbirds at our feeders. But in the fall it seems like the hummingbirds spend a lot more time at the feeders. They seem to be eating a lot to prepare themselves for the long flight south for the winter. These hummingbirds seem to be larger and less colorful than some of the others.

White Swallow

This little albino swallow was hatched in a nest just over our front door in Sioux Falls, SD. We were able to watch him grow. He was very beautiful and very unusual.
